Salvation Army Family Store

We are no ordinary army. Since 1883, The Salvation Army has fought poverty and social and spiritual distress in New Zealand. Founder William Booth spoke of The Salvation Army keeping an open door for all people at all times, and offering a practical form of assistance to any and every person in need. This commitment to the whole community has continued to shape the social services of The Salvation in New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga—we fearlessly work alongside people in times of personal, family, community and international crisis, giving timely practical help and practical comfort and support.

The Family Store exists to provide funds for the mission of the Salvation Army at local and regional level. Profit from the sale of donated goods in each Family Store is a significant source of funding for the work of The Salvation Army. Each Family Store is an important point of contact for the community ministry of the local Salvation Army and provides meaningful employment and opportunities for volunteer service to the community. The Family Store manager, Julie-Ann Baker, leads the volunteer team in aiming to provide quality second-hand goods at reasonable prices. Without the support of volunteers what we do would not be possible.

We’ve been there to help more than 120,000 families and individuals in New Zealand, in need each year—with budgeting advice, food and clothing assistance, life skills programs and other comfort and support.
